Mentoring: A Running Start 2008
Looking for a new challenge and memorable activity to share with your mentee? Set a physical activity goal and commit to health with your mentee by participating in Mentoring: A Running Start. The Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports/Michigan Fitness Foundation is offering mentor teams the opportunity to participate in the 5K Fun Run that is a part of the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon events this October.
Each year mentoring programs in Michigan support the academic and social success of thousands of youth. An important wellness component can be included in the mentoring partnership. Mentor teams have the opportunity to spend the summer training together for the 3.2 mile run that is part of the Detroit Marathon festivities in October. Training together can provide important lessons in team-work, goal setting, accomplishment and developing healthy habits that will last a lifetime!
Benefits of the program:
- Set an attainable physical activity goal together
- Meet mentors and mentees from across the state
- Improve your well being
- Enjoy an all-expense paid weekend of experiences unique to Detroit
- Strengthen your mentoring relationship
- Train this summer, earning rewards each month such as running shoes and team uniforms
