ACES—May 1, 2019

Project ACES was created by a physical education teacher in 1989 as a method of motivating children to exercise. The event is an international celebration of health, more commonly known as All Children Exercise Simultaneously, or ACES Day. This celebration emphasizes physical activity among students and helps combat childhood obesity. Michigan schools have the freedom to make the event their own and are encouraged to get creative! Schools have observed ACES Day in a variety of ways, including:

  • Walking parades
  • Dance aerobics classes
  • Field days, or outdoor events

ACES Day events in Michigan take place at elementary and middle schools, as well as at larger venues. This year the participating venues are Michigan State University, University of Michigan, and the Dow Diamond in Midland.

Bike to School Day—May 8, 2019

Bike to School Day brings community leaders, parents, students and other stakeholders together to build awareness for communities to be more walkable and bikeable, while promoting the importance of physical activity.

The Michigan Fitness Foundation coordinates both events, with help from Safe Routes to School, the Michigan Department of Transportation and Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan.

Farm Bureau Agents Ben and Kelsey Starr Sponsor Schools for ACES Day

Since 1998, the Michigan Fitness Foundation and Farm Bureau Insurance are partnering for All Children Exercise Simultaneously (ACES) and Bike to School Day, creating opportunities for local Farm Bureau agents to sponsor physical activity at elementary and middle schools throughout Michigan.

ACES Day is made possible through the generous support of agents like Kelsey and Ben Starr, who have been sponsoring schools in the Monroe area for six years.

“Ben and I have three boys at home,” says Kelsey. “We believe that the younger they learn the importance of physical fitness and activity, the better the chances that it will stick with them.”

Many agents like the Starrs spend time encouraging and inspiring students to stay physically active. “It’s always fun to see the kids exercising during ACES Day, and it’s good for the community. Because of this, it’s important that we get involved,” Kelsey said.
