Auto Show Shuffle Registration ‘Revved Up and Roarin’

5K Race Highlights Detroit Riverfront, Outdoor Activities in the City

Registration for the 2nd annual Auto Show Shuffle 5K Run and Walk is revved up and roarin’ for the North American International Auto Show this January. Car and winter 5K enthusiasts are encouraged to register to run along Detroit’s riverfront on Saturday, January 18 at 8:00 am at the Detroit Port Authority. The event will celebrate Detroit’s rich automotive history and its riverfront, trails and bike lanes before the start of the public portion of the Auto Show begins. The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports and the Michigan Fitness Foundation have partnered with The Parade Company to coordinate the opening event of the Public Days of the Auto Show.

Detroit has many attractions to offer to its visitors, none bigger than the Auto Show,” said Marilyn Lieber, President and CEO of the Michigan Fitness Foundation. “We are proud to advertise Detroit’s trails and promote outdoor activity in the city in partnership with the North American International Auto Show.”

The course will take runners through the Detroit Riverwalk and the Dequindre Cut, some of Detroit’s most popular greenways that sit along an international riverfront. Thanks to the Kresge Foundation, General Motors and the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy the East Riverfront has had over $50 million in funding for its development since 2003 to spur economic development in Detroit and attract families downtown.

Downtown resident Cleatrice Grigsby explains in The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy’s home page video what the riverfront means to her. “The riverfront gives you peace, it gives you pleasure, it gives you beauty,” she said. “Everybody seems to be so happy when they are down here.”

Participants will receive a commemorative tech-shirt, discount admission to the Auto Show and a special Auto Show Shuffle medal. For more information on the event and to register visit For more information about Detroit’s riverfront activities visit
