Supplementary Materials
Most of the Fit Bits require little or no materials. To help support some activities and to maintain student interest, however, some of the activities do call for manipulatives or music other than what comes on the CD. Here is ordering information for materials used in the Fit Bits.
- Food Model Cards are available through your state’s dairy council. Each card has a full-color picture of a food on one side and nutritional information on the other.
- Fruit and veggie toys are available through the Michigan Fitness Foundation. Click here to download an order form (coming soon).
- If you work at a school or child care facility that participates in the Federal Child Nutrition Programs, a MyPyramid poster is available for free through Team Nutrition at tn.ntis.gov/. MyPyramid mini-posters are available for free download at http://www.mypyramid.gov/kids/index.html.
- Most songs referred to in the Fit Bits are available for download through online music stores such as iTunes. Most popular songs are written with a time signature of 4/4. Compilation CDs that have songs with a strong 4/4 beat and clean lyrics intended for children are available for sale through sites such as www.amazon.com. For a list of songs with a time signature other than 4/4, see aufrecht.org/songs/. You may find it helpful to talk to your school’s music teacher about songs the children are learning in music class that may be appropriate for use with Fit Bits.
