GFA 2014 Nominations Surge

66 Michigan communities submitted 105 nominations for the Governor’s Fitness Awards in 2014, more than doubling the number of nominations submitted in 2013.

Four years ago we had 25 nominations for the Governor’s Fitness Awards, and that tremendous increase in nominations since 2010 is one indicator of Michigan’s growing commitment to physical activity and wellness in our daily lives,” said Marilyn Lieber, CEO of the Michigan Fitness Foundation. “The Michigan Fitness Foundation is proud of the widespread, expanding interest in the GFAs and the role we play in encouraging year-round physical activity in Michigan."

The Michigan Chamber of Commerce is pleased to have helped increase the number of nominations in the new Healthy Workplace categories of the Governor’s Fitness Awards,” said Wendy Block, Director of Health Policy and Human Resources. “We know that employee wellness efforts positively impact job satisfaction and the bottom line for businesses, and we appreciate the opportunity to partner with the Michigan Fitness Foundation and highlight Healthy Workplace leadership in businesses throughout Michigan."

GFA Awards

Every year, The Michigan Fitness Foundation and The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports host the Governor’s Fitness Awards, which recognize organizational and individual leadership toward creating healthier communities, in nine different categories.

Special thanks go out from the MFF to our partners that helped engage so many people and organizations in the nominating process. Without them there would not be such significant growth in nominations and interest in healthy lifestyles.

The Governor’s Fitness Awards Presenting Sponsor is Ford Motor Company, and additional partners include DTE Energy, MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, Farm Bureau Insurance, Jackson National Life and others.
