Governor’s Fitness Awards Continue Record Growth

With Ford As Presenting Sponsor, Fifty-Three Partners Fuel Pure Michigan Fitness Movement

LANSING, Mich.— Reflecting Michigan’s growing commitment to physical activity and better nutrition habits, the 2014 Governor’s Fitness Awards continue to grow at a record pace, with the Ford Motor Company serving as the event’s Presenting Sponsor for the second year in a row.

This year, 52 additional corporate partners have signed on to support the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports and the Michigan Fitness Foundation in celebrating citizens and organizations who exemplify making health and physical activity a priority in their daily lives.

“Ford is committed to help keep Michigan moving,” said Jim Vella, President of Ford Motor Company Fund. “Supporting the Governor’s Fitness Awards is one way we can celebrate the people and organizations that work so hard to improve themselves and their communities.”

“The combined enthusiasm and commitment of all our sponsors really shows that Michigan is moving in the right direction when it comes being healthy and active,” said Governor Rick Snyder.

Part of the substantial sponsorship growth of the 2014 Governor’s Fitness Awards was the addition of nineteen new sponsors, a fifty percent increase over 2013.

“The growth in partnership and new sponsors reflects a trend in Michigan: more individuals and organizations are committing to improving their health and the health of their community,” said Marilyn Lieber, president and CEO of the Michigan Fitness Foundation. “Dozens of partners like Ford Motor Company, Detroit Lions, NuStep, and Lighthouse Insurance Group are stepping up to get Michigan moving. Their support reinforces the commitment of every Governor’s Fitness Award winner, and encourages us all to live healthy, active lives.”

Award winners will be announced on April 24 during a Celebration at Ford Field. For more information about the Governor’s Fitness Awards, visit www.michiganfitness.org/gfa.

The Michigan Fitness Foundation and the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports work to bring about behavior change through programming, special projects and events that encourage citizens to build physical activity and sound nutrition into their daily lives. By empowering, facilitating and celebrating healthy choices, the Foundation works to foster prosperity for all.
