Making Schools Healthier

Healthy Classrooms, Healthy Schools helps teachers transform first their classroom and, ultimately, their school into environments promoting healthy eating and physical activity. Healthy Classrooms, Healthy Schools includes two sets of supplemental lessons—one for grades K–2 and one for grades 3–5. These can be ordered individually or as a set.

Healthy Classrooms, Healthy Schools can also be ordered with companion books with nutrition and physical activity themes tailored to individual grades, K–5.

When incorporated as part of the PE-Nut model, Healthy Classrooms, Healthy Schools lessons are one part of a larger intervention. PE-Nut (Physical Education and Nutrition working together) is a nutrition and physical education program using a whole-school approach to motivate students, parents and educators to be physically active and eat healthier. PE-Nut is designed to improve health behaviors in a school environment by presenting simple, consistent nutrition and physical activity messages using multiple approaches.

Healthy Classrooms, Healthy Schools touches on all areas defined by the Centers for Disease Control as part of a Coordinated School Health program.
