This wasn’t my first year running the Mighty Mac on Labor Day, but this year, I knew what to expect. When my alarm went off Labor Day morning at 4:00am, I knew I was getting ready to join hundreds of other runners to lead the pack across the Mackinac Bridge. The weather was perfect; I donned my Fitness Ambassador T-shirt and headed to Mackinac City where we were all bussed across the bridge to St. Ignace. That race day vibe is amazing!
Have you ever run a race? Whether you’re running for fun, time or both…it’s a great accomplishment. When I first made the decision to start running, I set a goal to run a 5K. I downloaded the C25K app on my phone, laced up my shoes and headed out the door. I never thought 60 seconds was a long time…until that day. Jogging for 60 seconds sounds easy, right? Wrong. Week one consisted of jogging for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds. I think I repeated week one about four times before I graduated to week two. Within the first couple weeks, I signed up for my first 5K. I didn’t know if I would be ready (it was months away), but I knew that it would be my motivation to stick with it.
Getting off the couch is hard. Find your motivation, find a running buddy, set a goal and accomplish it. Sign up for an organized event. Walk it, run it, jog it….heck, do all three. The feeling you get when you cross that finish line is amazing. It’s contagious…(and the race day bling isn’t bad either).
Whether you are a beginner or an avid runner, you won’t be disappointed by the views atop the Mighty Mac! What a glorious sunrise! What a spectacular view! Registration is now open for the 2017 Labor Day Bridge Run. Log onto runsignup.com/bridgerun to register and start training today!
